May Allah Guide The Pseudo-Salafi or Why I pity those who can not see.

ﺍﻟﺤﻤﺪ ﷲ ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﻳﻬﺪﻳﻨﺎ ﺍﻼﺳﺎﻼﻡ و ﺍﺻﻄﻒ ﺍﻟﻤﺻﻄﻔﻰ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﻰﷲ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ و ﺳﻠﻢ و ﺑﻌﺪ.
I have a great many acquaintances who would classify themselves as followers of a “Salafi Minhaj”. That is to say they follow, or better said, attempt to follow, the first three generations of Muslims who existed. It must be stated at this time that as Muslims, we are in agreement that theses are the best people ever to live, as per the hadith (See Salikulhaqq’s Glossary of Islamic nomenclature), in which the Prophet salaam Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said“The best generation is my generation, then the one that follows, then the one that follows.”
Narrated Imran bin Husain: “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘The best of my followers are those living in my generation (i.e. my contemporaries). and then those who will follow the latter” ‘Imran added, “I do not remember whether he mentioned two or three generations after his generation, then the Prophet added, ‘There will come after you, people who will bear witness without being asked to do so, and will be treacherous and untrustworthy, and they will vow and never fulfill their vows, and fatness will appear among them.”
Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet said, “The best people are those living in my generation, and then those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the latter. Then there will come some people who will bear witness before taking oaths, and take oaths before bearing witness.” (Ibrahim, a sub-narrator said, “They used to beat us for witnesses and covenants when we were still children.”)
.
Naturally, all Muslims look to the those early generations are venerated and we view them as our roll models.
But time has come where now people say that they look to the early generations, Are are looking to the later generation. The coiner of the phrase is said to be Muhammad Abduh the student of Jamal Ad-din. Al-Afghani.
Some link these men and their movement to British Intelligence. Perhaps that is a stretch, however, the intolerance of their followers towards others cannot be questioned.
The following has been stated: ”

There was of course an ulterior motive for Cromer making Abduh the most powerful figure in all of Islam. You see, in 1898 the ruling council of Al-Azhar University had reaffirmed that usury, and thus banking according to the Western model, was harem (illegal) according to Islamic Law. This was unacceptable to Lord Cromer because his given name happened to be Evelyn Baring -he was an important member of England’s prestigious Baring banking family that had grown rich off of the opium trade in India and China. Lord Cromer installed his friend Sheikh Abduh to change the law forbidding banking, and once he was made Grand Mufti he used a very liberal and creative interpretation of the Quran to fabricate a loophole that allowed the forbidden practice of usury. British banks then had free reign to dominate Egypt. In Lord Cromer’s writings he says, “I suspect my friend Abduh was in reality an agnostic,” and he commented on Abduh’s Salafiyya movement saying, “They are the natural allies of the European reformer.” Even Cromer saw that the Islamist movement could be used to Britain’s advantage.”
All that being stated, we must admit that their zealotry of hadith authentication is comendable. However, they use layman as their reference to hadith.
The greatest malady regarding the average individual who claims they follow the “salafi method” is their refusal to admit their taqleed or blind following of their shaykhs or teachers. If they are asked to look at a paper or composition written by anyone other than ‘scholars’ they are familiar with, they refuse. When they are asked to read or understand about the history of the last 500 years, in order to understand why the Ummah is in the state it is in, “I will leave that to the students of knowledge,” is a likely response.
They refuse to condemn the Saudi “Royalty,” who in historical reality are nothing but thugs who used this Neo or pseudo salafi paradigm to say that the Ottoman’s were beyond the pale of Islam and thusly fair game for an offensive Jihad. At the time, the debauchery and corruption of the Turkish Sultan was viewed as a reason for overthrow.
Now, the debauchary and corruption of the Saudi “Royalty” is well know in Saudi culture. Thus they, the,’royals’ get weak minded and spiritualy corrupt Islamic Scholars to issue fatawas stating that protesting is unlawful in the shariah (Islamic jurisprudance). If these people earnestly desire to follow the Salaf they would wish to re-establish the Caliphate (Khilafah). Yet on the majority of the pseudo-salafi websites groups that advocate for this are considared blame worthy.

  1. “All that being stated, we must admit that their zealotry of hadith authentication is comendable. However, they use layman as their reference to hadith.”

‘Commendable’ is spelt with ‘mm’. We use ‘laymen’ as our reference to hadith? Really? Would you care to expound on this interesting theory of yours with some examples of these ‘laymen’?

“The greatest malady regarding the average individual who claims they follow the “salafi method” is their refusal to admit their taqleed or blind following of their shaykhs or teachers. This extraction seems to be a figment of your own vivid imagination which you then spout as a strawman argument. I know of no Salafi (and I know many salafis – being one myself) who says anything remotely like these words, which you have concocted from thin air. How about you furnish us with some evidence for your wild allegations and then we can take it from there. You do know that allegations are required to be supported with evidence before they can be give any credence, right?

“They refuse to condemn the Saudi “Royalty,” who in historical reality are nothing but thugs who used this Neo or pseudo salafi paradigm to say that the Ottoman’s were beyond the pale of Islam and thusly fair game for an offensive Jihad. Actually, Salafis refuse to condemn the Muslim rulers (righteous or tyrants) full-stop. And do you know why we refuse to? Because the words of the Prophet and the Imams of Ahlus Sunnah require us to with hold our tongues. But allow me to do something which you consistently fail to do, which is, to bring prophetic evidence for my claim, and then you can go off and perhaps practice “zealotry of hadith authentication” that you begrudgingly admit for the Salafis:

Hudhaifah reports that the Messenger of Allaah said “There will come leaders who will not follow my guidance and will not follow my sunnah. There will be amongst them men who will have the hearts of devil and bodies of humans.” He (Hudhaifah asked) “What shall I do, o Messenger of Allaah if I reach that?” He replied, “you should hear and obey the ruler even if he flogs your backs and takes your wealth, then still hear and obey.” Reported by Muslim

The Prophet said: ‘‘The person must obey in whatever he loves, and in whatever he hates, in ease and in hardship, in willingness and un-willingness; except if he is commanded to disobey Allaah. So if he is commanded to disobey Allaah, then he should not listen, not should he obey.’’ Related by al-Bukhaaree (4/203)

It was said, “Shall we confront them with swords?” The Prophet said, “No, as long as they establish prayer among you. If you find something hateful from them, you should hate their actions but not withdraw your hand from obedience.” Sahih Muslim (1855)

‘Iyaad ibn Ghunum who said, “The Messenger of Allaah said, “Whoever desires to advise the one with authority then he should not do so openly, rather he should take him by the hand and take him into seclusion (and then advise him). And if he accepts (the advice) from him then (he has achieved his objective) and if not, then he has fulfilled that which was a duty upon him.” [7] Reported by Ahmad (3/403) and Ibn Abee ‘Aasim (2/521) with a saheeh isnaad.

Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (d.241H) – rahimahullaah – said: “Verily I supplicate for the ruler, for his correctness, success and support – night and day – and I see this as being obligatory upon me.’’ Refer to as-Sunnah (no. 14) of Aboo Bakr al-Khallaal.

Al-Hāfidh Ibn Hajar al-’Asqalānī transmitted this in his book Fath al-Bārī vol.13, p.7) from Imām Ibn Battāl, who has an explanation of Saheeh Bukhārī which has been published:
“The fuquhā (Islāmic jurists) have reached consensus that obedience must be made to the leader who becomes dominant (mutaghallib) and making jihād with him and that obeying him is better than revolting against him as it would spare unnecessary bloodshed and calm the masses.”

Imām Abū Ja’far at-Tahāwī, author of ‘Aqeedah Tahāwiyyah, which was explained by Ibn Abi’l-’Izz al-Hanafī, states:
“We do not view (that it is permissible to) revolt against our leaders or those who are responsible for our affairs, and even if they transgress, we do not make du’ā against them and we do not take back the covenant of obedience from them and we view that obedience to them is from obedience to Allāh and obligatory as long as they do not command to disobedience and we make du’ā to Allāh for them to have correctness and good health.”

  2. “Now, the debauchary and corruption of the Saudi “Royalty” is well know in Saudi culture. Thus they, the,’royals’ get weak minded and spiritualy corrupt Islamic Scholars to issue fatawas stating that protesting is unlawful in the shariah (Islamic jurisprudance).”

Let me counter your words with some wise words from Ibnul Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, who said,

“Reflect upon the wisdom of the Exalted in making the kings of the servants, their leaders, and their rulers to be from the same class of action as them. Rather, it is as if their actions become manifest in their rulers and kings.
If the people are upright, then their kings will remain upright. If they turn away from righteousness, then their kings will also turn away. If the servants commit oppression, then their kings and rulers will oppress them.
If there appears plotting and deception among the people, their rulers will behave likewise. If the people prevent the rights of Allah from being fulfilled among themselves and become miserly regarding their rights, then their kings and rulers will withhold the rights that they have upon them and will become miserly regarding them.”

Just for your information, protesting against the rulers is not from the ways of the early Muslims and nor is there any text to argue for its legal validity. Truth be told, protesting and demonstrating is from the ways of the disbelievers, socialists and anarchists. Truth be further told, protesting and demonstrating is nothing but a playpen for the agitated masses to make them feel like they are doing some worthwhile and noble.

“If these people earnestly desire to follow the Salaf they would wish to re-establish the Caliphate (Khilafah). Yet on the majority of the pseudo-salafi websites groups that advocate for this are considared blame worthy.”

You really are in the business of mass-production of strawmen. Do you know the difference between implementation of the prophetic methods required for the Khilaafah and calling directly for the installment of Khilaafah? Understandi the difference between these two seemingly tautologous concepts and you’ll see the inherent lie in your accusation. However, let me make it easy for you by giving you the chance to present direct quotes with references from these ‘pseudo-salafi websites’ ‘that advocate for this are considared blame worthy.’

We advocate the Khilaafah but what we don’t advocate is the fast-track methods that some ignorant Muslims wish to employ for the re-establishment of the khilaafah.

“أقيموا دولة الإسلام في قلوبكم, تقم لكم في أرضكم”

Establish the Islamic state in your hearts and it will be established for you on the earth.

    Allah states:

Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me.

    • As-salaam alaykum, thank you for your comments. I have come to see the veracity of your words. Establish the Islamic state in your heart and it will manifest itself naturally in sha Allah.

    • السلام عليكم
I’ve come to see the veracity of your words since I have written that article. The majority of people are in the state of debauchery madness, laziness. We have a saying here in the United States the fish rots from the head. Thanks to Hollywood most people are looking for some sort of person to look up to some person to follow and they don’t realize that we have them in the first three years of Islamic history. Your comments are insightful and appreciated. جزاك الله خير السلام عليكم ورحمه الله وبركاته
